June 2005
For most of us 2005 Commencement’s are in the history
books. This time of year automatically triggers several things
for Higher Education Facilities Professionals. The start of
scheduling nightmares between Conference Services and our
much needed, and requested, summer workload, to name but one.
So too with the DVAPPA this time of year signifies that the
changing of the guard is at hand. My year as DVAPPA president
was exciting and an honor for me. I encourage all of our institutional
primary members to consider involvement on the board, or participating
on some level. It not only improves diversity among the DVAPPA
leadership, but provides you more opportunity’s to meet
& talk with your peers.
The information concerning our June Chapter meeting is posted
on the web-site. You will also receive the same information
by US mail & e-mail. It proves to be an interesting program,
and of course, the introduction of your new DVAPPA board.
I want to remind our Business Partners that attendance at
Chapter meetings is limited to two BP’s per vendor membership.
Also, I need to remind everyone that DVAPPA still maintains
a moratorium on new BP applications. It is important to the
health of DVAPPA that we carefully consider the balance of
membership both as a whole, and at gatherings.
I encourage you to visit our web-site www.dvappa.org There
you will find pictures from Skytop “05”, and the
dates for Skytop “06”.
I thank everyone in the organization for your support of
DVAPPA through you willingness to host meetings, attend meetings,
sponsor Skytop activities, and be a part of this professional
organization in many ways. I look forward to seeing everyone
at Villanova on June 30, 2005.

President, DVAPPA

“As I walk through this world
Nothing can stop the Duke of Earl”
For those who attended this year’s DVAPPA annual education
retreat at Skytop, these lyrics have special meaning. For
the rest of you, you’ll have to ask an attendee, and
in the process you might also learn that:
- Wednesday evening we checked out the wonderful new conference
center at Skytop, enjoying a grand dinner in a private room.
As always, the food and fellowship was superb.
- Thursday morning kicked off with an informative, enlightening,
and interactive panel discussion on LEED design and construction.
Kevin Aires of Bower Lewis and Thrower Architects, Hal Dean
of West Chester University, and Catherine Broh of MGA Partners
each made excellent presentations and facilitated dialogue
with the group.
- The weather provided a little bit of everything Thursday
afternoon (and sometimes within the space of 15 minutes),
but the die-hard golfers, hikers, skeet shooters, shoppers,
fitness fanatics and fireplace companions still were able
to “do their thing.”
- We welcomed over 60 members and guests for dinner at
the Inn Thursday night. We are seeing more spouses each
year, a trend we’d like to see continue.
- Friday morning, Dr. Steve Sobel shared his own personal
style of wisdom, humor and anecdotes . Judging by the reaction
of the audience, he was a huge hit.
Finally, we want to thank all the business partner sponsors
who helped make this year’s event a success:

The Arthur Jackson Company
